When Gurpreet Singh Mata and Sakshi Saran had their baby Kabir, they bought everything parents usually trust.

Big brands.
Expensive products.
Premium labels.

But slowly, they noticed something worrying.

Most baby products — clothes, blankets, toys — were filled with synthetic fabrics like polyester and acrylic.

🌿 The Search for Safe Fabric

Sakshi and Gurpreet started searching for fabrics that genuinely felt safe for babies.

That search led her to muslin swaddles.

Soft. Breathable. Gentle.

The difference was immediate.

But finding this fabric was not easy.

Sakshi and Gurpreet left their legal career and started going to markets carrying Kabir and his swaddles to fabric markets, asking vendors:

“Where can I find this fabric?”

Surprisingly, very few people even knew about it properly.

🧵 Then Came The Hard Part

Finding the fabric was only the beginning.

Stitching it was even harder.

Most tailors refused to work with muslin double gauze.

Some charged huge amounts.
Some stitched it poorly.
Some simply gave up.

Because this fabric is delicate, soft, and difficult to handle.

But Sakshi refused to stop.

📚 Learning From Scratch

The lawyer who knew nothing about fabrics started learning everything about them.

She even started learning stitching herself because she believed:

“If I cannot stitch it myself, I will never understand what is going wrong.”

Slowly, one tailor joined.

Small production started.

And after almost a year of learning, failing, improving, and starting again —

something beautiful was finally taking shape.

🤍 That’s How Tokabear Was Born

Both Gurpreet and Sakshi eventually left their legal careers completely and put everything they had into building this dream.

And that is how Tokabear was born.

The name?

🐾 Tosh — their paw baby
👶 Kabir — their human baby

Together:

To + Kabear = Tokabear

🚧 The Struggle Nobody Sees

The products were beautiful.

People loved the fabric.

But building a brand is much harder than making a product.

❌ Websites failed
❌ Agencies failed
❌ Exhibitions failed
❌ Marketing failed

Money disappeared quickly.

But the dream stayed alive.

Salaries had to be paid.
Rent had to be paid.
And there was a newborn at home.

Still, they kept going.

💻 Then Saksham Joined In

This is when Saksham Saran — Kabir’s mamu — joined the journey.

After completing his Masters in Information Technology and working for nearly 10 years with large corporates and startups as a software engineer, he left his high-paying career to join the startup.

Not because it was successful.

But because he believed in the mission.

A fabric that genuinely felt different.
A brand that genuinely cared.
